Brake is an indispensable and important device for the safe and smooth operation of elevator. The main functions of brake are as follows:

1. The brake can act on its own when the power supply of the elevator is cut off. The brake shoe holds the brake wheel so that the elevator stops running. When braking, the deceleration of the elevator shall not be greater than the deceleration caused by the safety clamp stopping the car or the car stopping on the buffer.

2. When the elevator stops running at the station, the brake shall be able to keep the elevator still under the rated load of 125-150%, and shall not be opened before starting again.

3. When the speed of the elevator exceeds the speed limit, the brake first acts and the brake wheel is braked to stop the operation of the elevator. The brake of the elevator tractor must be released when the power supply or control power supply is cut off, or when the elevator runs beyond the limit, overspeed or breaks down, it will brake immediately, so that the elevator stops running or can not start, which ensures that the brake can achieve reliable braking when the elevator is in power failure and all kinds of extraordinary accidents occur. The brake must be fully released and the brake shoe must not touch the brake wheel. Brake is one of the most frequently used devices in elevator, and it also plays the most important role in safe operation.
